Spring and borehole water provides the basis for the production of quality disease free eggs, fry and smolts.
The hatchery and its surroundings provide the perfect ecosystem. The area is abundant in wildlife, with kingfishers, woodpeckers, osprey, kestrel, buzzard, badgers, deer, and fox regular visitors throughout the year. The hatchery grounds also provide accommodation for a large number of slow worm and Great Crested newt.

The water supply is a gravity feed from Haweswater reservoir. The Quality, temperature profile and disease status produces excellent quality throughout. The site and surrounding area are a haven for wildlife, which Lakeland actively promotes. With a balanced ecosystem fish and wildlife are in abundance. Otters, badgers, deer, kingfisher and red squirrel are daily visitors. The valley also plays host to the only Golden Eagle in England.

Migdale Smolt commenced operating in 1989 as a subsidiary of Lakeland Smolt. The production sites are located in the Highlands of Scotland with graded parr transferred from Lakeland hatcheries in June, and ongrown to smolt.
The Murray family provide day to day management with the focus on quality and disease status.

The sea water sites in Argyll utilise the clear waters of the gulf stream and provide the perfect environment for growing quality disease free fish. Low stocking densities and good husbandry provides the parameters for excellent quality through and through.

Lakeland Unst is situated in the North Isles of Shetland and is geographically the northern most island in Britain.
The sea water sites provide the ideal conditions for aquaculture. The clear oceanic waters and good currents produce a firm flesh, ideal for the discerning customer. As a result of the currents and its geographical position, Lakeland Unst has never treated for sea lice in over 12 years of operation.
