The water supply from Haweswater Smolt Unit provides the perfect balance to the local ecosystem. On leaving the tanks the water is treated through Ecotraps settling out a large proportion of the suspended solids before entering a mechanical drum filter removing over 95 percent of the solids down to 60 microns. The water is then passed through a final Bio pond prior to discharging in to Haweswater Beck. the water is monitored daily to ensure quality is maintained at all times with no detrimental effect on the receiving water course. The biodiversity of plants, fish, animals and birds is a testament to Lakeland's commitment to the environment.
